Description

ICT4Life took part in the 2017 AAATE Congress, a 4-day event about Assistive Technologies taking place from 12 to 15 September 2017 in Sheffield (UK).
The 2017 Congress was addressing the global challenge of meeting the needs of the increasing number of people who could benefit from Assistive Technology. The Congress was adding to its usual breadth a focus on the translational research agenda.
The rich tapestry of articles accepted for the 14th AAATE Conference in Sheffield 2017 is presented in a document available in the eBook. After Maastricht 1990, Stockholm 1993, Lisbon 1995, Porto 1997, Düsseldorf 1999, Ljubjana 2001, Dublin 2003, Lille 2005, San Sebastian 2007, Florence 2009, Maastricht 2011, Vilamoura 2013, and Budapest 2015 this conference was hosted for the first time in the UK.
The AAATE conferences are highlighting innovations that are within the international movement around knowledge sharing about and spreading awareness of innovations in technology, services and understanding to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. The World Health Organization’s International Classification of Function now includes long-term conditions and there is then a less stigmatising environment in which innovation can occur.
Increasingly international policies and agreements such as the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities are helping to drive equality, inclusion and independence forward.
